Today we meet Mapesu nicknamed "Buzz" from Botlokwa in Limpopo who is one of our most active Bornfrees Facebook friends:


Tell us who you are and where are you from, and staying currently?
 I'm Mapesu "Buzz" Ramahuma, a 17year old from Ramokgopa Village, Botlokwa in Limpopo.. I'm in grade 11 doing Commerce at Sefoloko Secondary School.

 Who do you live with and where?
 I'm living with both my parents, my niece, sister and two brothers

Do you have role models and what do you admire in them?
 Yes i have a role model, she is Charlotte Maxeke. I admire her a lot as she managed to achieve a lot in her life, being the first black women to graduate with BSc for one. But the reason I look so much up to her is that she was born in my village.

 What is the benefit of being a bornfree?
The benefit of being a bornfree is that we are born in freedom where many social and welfare needs for under privilaged people are provided. So bornfrees cannot make poverty an excuse for not getting the right education

What is your idea of a perfect day?
 My idea of a perfect day is a day that I will just spend painting.


What dream and goals do you have for yourself?
 My goal is to win a Thuthuka bursary and my dream is to one day be a Chartered Accountant


 What message do you want to share with other Bornfrees?
 My message to other Bornfrees is that you don't have to be a nerd or a genius to have a bright future. No one was destined to become a failure, motivate your own self, discipline yourself and achieving anything will be your cup of tea.

Today we meet Asandile from King Williams Town in the Eastern Cape.

Tell us who you are and where you're from and staying currently

I am Asandile Mzana and I am from Gauteng, but am currently staying in Phakamisa Township in the Eastern Cape.

Who do you live with and where?

I live with my Grandpa and Grandma in a little township in King Williams Town called Phakamisa.

What are you doing currently (eg. attending school, working etc) and tell us more about that?

I am currently attending Breidbach Senior Secondary School and am doing grade 11. My subjects are: English, Afrikaans, Business, Math Literacy, Geography, History and Life Orientation.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

My mom because without her I wouldn't be here in this right place and I wouldn't be able to achieve my goals.

Do you have any role models and what do you admire in them?

My role model is Anaso Jobodwana. He inspires people to not give up and that you must keep pushing if you want to reach your goals.

What do you think is the benefit of being a Bornfree?

Because we were all born into a new democratic country.

Are there any negative aspects of being a Bornfree?

That we are free in our politicals rights, but inside we are still slaves. We still treat each other badly and not as equals.

What's your idea of a perfect day?

It is when you have a bright, happy and loving day every morning when you wake up thinking positive thoughts.

What dream do you have for yourself, or goal you want to achieve?

My goal is to be a lawyer and also a soccer player. I want to achieve it, being positve in myself

What message would you share with other Bornfrees?

You must be proud of yourself, think positive thoughts and be proud of being South African.

Today we meet Donovan from King Williams Town in the Eastern Cape.

Tell us who you are and where you're from and staying currently

I am Donovan Boswell. I am a male born in the Eastern Cape and am currently staying with my parents in Schornville. I was born in Grey Hospital in King Williams Town

Who do you live with and where?

I am staying in Schornville and living with my parents. I love the environment where I live. There is no drama of any sort going on around here.

What are you doing currently (eg. attending school, working etc) and tell us more about that?

I am currently attending Breidbach Senior Secondary School, because I want to achieve my main goals in life of being able to make a success of myself out there.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

Well, I actually have two people that I have in mind and that is my mother and father due to the fact that they gave birth to me and raised me to be the person I am today.

Do you have any role models and what do you admire in them?

I admire Nelson Mandela and Hector Pieterson as they both made a change in our lives and without their grace and strength we were not going to have a free world or democracy.

What do you think is the benefit of being a Bornfree?

The benefits of being a Bornfree is that my mother gave birth to me in a new and democratic South Africa

Are there any negative aspects of being a Bornfree?

The advantage is that we are currently not suffering under the rule of Apartheid

What's your idea of a perfect day?

My idea of a perfect day is seriously seeing myself somewhere over ten years from now when I have finished all of my studies and am succesful and looking after my parents and saying thank you for all they did for me.

What dream do you have for yourself, or goal you want to achieve?

My main goal I want to achieve is to make myself happy one day and look back showing my parents that I had made them proud. I want to be a business man.

What message would you share with other Bornfrees?

Never give up on what you do. Enjoy the benefits we got as Bornfrees, because it is all up to us what we make out of life.

Today we meet Diego from King Williams Town in the Eastern Cape.

Tell us who you are and where you're from and staying currently

Hi my name is Diego Saunders I am from King Williams Town, but was born in East London and I stay with my sister. I have four sisters and two brothers. Two of my sisters is from my mother and the rest are from my father.

Who do you live with and where?

I live with my sister in Breidbach in King Williams Town.

What are you doing currently (eg. attending school, working etc) and tell us more about that?

I am a learner at Breidbach Senior Secondary School in King Williams Town and I am in Grade 10

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

My parents are the most important because they were there when I was born. They look after me and they are important because without them I would not be here and they have given me a life I can only be grateful for.

Do you have any role models and what do you admire in them?

My role model is my mother because she has given me everything that i want and makes me happy. She is the light of my life and brings me joy.

What do you think is the benefit of being a Bornfree?

I am glad I was born a Bornfree because those years of Apartheid meant that you would be arrested just for the colour of your skin so I am glad to be bornfree.

Are there any negative aspects of being a Bornfree?

No, because I am very happy and enjoying it because it is very exciting.

What's your idea of a perfect day?

My idea of a perfect day is to be enjoy the day and be happy that I am still alive and that God gave me another perfect day.

What dream do you have for yourself, or goal you want to achieve?

My dream is to become a business man. I want to start off with my own business and be successful. One of my goals is to become a famous body builder.

What message would you share with other Bornfrees?

I am a Bornfree and enjoy it very much so all I want to say is enjoy your life while you can.

Today we meet Kelly from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape.

Tell us who you are and where you're from and staying currently

I am Kelly and I'm from Port Elizabeth, but am currently staying in King Williams Town in the suburb of Schornville

Who do you live with and where?

I live with my Grandmother and Grandfather and two cousins

What are you doing currently (eg. attending school, working etc) and tell us more about that?

I am still attending school and it is my second year in grade 11 and because I want to achieve my goals.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

My Grandmother because she is the one I can talk to anytime if I have problems. She inspires me with everything and she teaches me to do right and make the right decisions.

Do you have any role models and what do you admire in them?

Yes, I have. I admire them because they set an example to me and ecourages me to achieve my goals in life.

What do you think is the benefit of being a Bornfree?

The benefit of being bornfree is being born in the new democracy.

Are there any negative aspects of being a Bornfree?

We are bornfree which means we are in a country that we can make our own rights and at a new beginning of the new democracy.

What's your idea of a perfect day?

A perfect day is not to be afraid to visit a town or city like my parents had to feel and to wake up with a smile on my face.

What dream do you have for yourself, or goal you want to achieve?

My dream is to become a traffic officer and a professional model because I like taking pictures.

What message would you share with other Bornfrees?

Feel free. Do not worry about tomorrow for nobody knows what tomorrow holds, because you are your own boss.

Today we meet Bukiwe from Alice in the Eastern Cape.

Tell Us Who You Are and where you're from and staying currently

I am Bukiwe Stofile. I was born at Frere Hospital in East London on the 6 of February 1994. I'm living in Alice with both my parents. I have one sibling , a sister, and I'm the first born. I'm currently doing grade 11 in Breidebach Secondary School.

Who do you live with and where?

I'm living with both my parents and my sister. We all live in Alice, but since my father got employed by BP in East London they all have to move their whilst I stay at athe hostel of Bredebach Secondary School.

What are you doing currently (eg. attending school, working etc) and tell us more about that?

I'm currently attending school. I've been at Breidebach Secondary School since 2010. I do the following subjects: English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Geography and Life Orientation.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

The most important person in my life is my mother. She played and is still playing a great role in my life which I can look up to as I'm growing up and I'm still walking in her footsteps today.

Do you have any role models and what do you admire in them?

My mother will always be my role model, because the way I admire her is unconditional. She taught me how to live my life in order to be a successful woman. One thing she told me which I'll never forget is that "first impressions last longer"

What do you think is the benefit of being a Bornfree?

The benefits of being a Bornfree is that we didn't experience the times of apartheid and the way people were treated back then.

Are there any negative aspects of being a Bornfree?

No, not that I know of. We as Bornfrees were born in a democratic time. Although sometimes we do face the after effects of Apartheid like discrimination and racism, and we face them daily.

What's your idea of a perfect day?

My perfect day is waking up at 05:30 and pray thanking God for giving me an opportunity to live and breathe, then preparing for going to school. Having some fun and having my day well spent.

What dream do you have for yourself, or goal you want to achieve?

I want to achieve a dream of being in the music industry, singing gospel as I'm a fan of gospel because that's who I am, growing up loving God. I'd like a career of doing a Bachelor of Arts.

What message would you share with other Bornfrees?

Never worry yourself about what happened during Apartheid. Today, we have to strive for what we are longing for and setting goals for ourselves and also to dream big and high.

Bornfree Profile: Anele from Johannesburg

Today we meet Anele from Johannesburg:

Tell us who you are and where you're from, and staying currently

Anele Ngcobo is a daughter, a sister, a friend, a God-fearing child, a writer, poet and singer. I am the youngest of three girls originally from KZN, Durban, Westville. My family relocated to Johannesburg in 1999, when I was 5.

 

Who do you live with and where?

I currently stay in Northcliff with my two sisters and both my parents.

What are you doing currently (eg. attending school, working etc) and tell us more about that

I am currently in Grade 12, preparing for my Final Matric exams at Parktown High School for Girls.

 

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

The most important person to me is God. I believe that God is my creator and He is the only person in life who will never let me down. God is the source of my strength and I will always look up to Him.

Do you have a rolemodel?

My current role model is Jabulile Buthelezi, a black female journalist. She is doing what I aspire to be and she has helped me in many ways, to develop a character that will help me face the real world, especially in the journalism field.

What do you think is the benefit of being a Bornfree

There are so many benefits of being a Bornfree. We were privileged to be born in a democratic era where we are all seen as equals. We are no longer divided and we all have the same opportunities.

 

Are there any negative aspects of being a Bornfree

The only negative aspect of being a Bornfree is that we are the very first Bornfree Generation. Everybody is looking to us to bring change, and although it is very possible, it just adds a bit of pressure because the nation is depending on us.

What's your idea of a perfect day?

A perfect day to me would be waking up to beautiful weather, with no worries, what so ever. 

What dream or goal do you have for yourself?

My dream is to be placed where ever God wants me to be placed. As long as my attributes are valuable and I am making a difference.

 

What message would you share with other Bornfrees?

I would like to share this quote by Bob Dylan with other Bornfrees: “A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom.” We will only be heroes once we have understood our responsibility as Bornfrees.
